Experiencing the Skilled Trades

Grade 7 and 8 students participate in a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities to explore the skilled trades in Ontario. Through partnerships with local business, like LiUNA 1089, Lambton College, St. Clair College, and St. Patrick’s high school in Sarnia and Ursuline College Catholic high school in Chatham, students participate in hands on activities to experience what it would be like to work in the various trades around Kent and Lambton Counties.

Students have formed concrete slabs using sand with LiUNA trainers, welded at St. Patrick's high school in Sarnia and drawn still life drawings in art classes at Ursuline College in Chatham. At Lambton College students have tried to virtual weld in the Lambton College tech trailer and at St. Clair College, students have participated in the "Amazing Skills Challenge" where students completed hands-on activities for a variety of careers.
